IOT (Internet of Things)

IOT

What is IOT? | Understanding The Internet of Things

The internet of things, to use intelligently connected devices and systems to leverage data gathered by embedded sensors and actuators in the machines and other physical objects. IOT is expected to spread rapidly over the coming years and this will improve the quality of our connected life.

Physical and virtual things in an IOT have their own identities and attributes and are capable of using intelligent interfaces and being integrated as an information network. In easy terms, IOT can be described in connected devices that are uniquely identifiable.

The Internet of things has been identified as one of the emerging technologies in IT.

ARCHITECTURE OF IOT:-

A critical requirement of an IOT is that the things in the network must be connected to each other. IOT system architecture must guarantee the operations of IOT, which connects the physical and the virtual worlds.

APPLICATION LAYER:

  • Lowest abstract layer
  • with sensors, we are creating digital nervous systems
  • incorporated to measure physical quantities.

GATEWAY AND THE NETWORK LAYER:

  • Robust and high performances network infrastructures
  • allows multiple organizations
  • support and communications requirements

MANAGEMENT LAYER:

  • Capturing of periodic sensory data
  • Ensure security and privacy data

INTERNET OF THINGS ELEMENTS:

There are three IOT components that enable seamlessly:

  • Hardware: It is made up of sensors, actuators, and embedded communication hardware.
  • Middleware: On-demand storage and computing tools for data analytics.
  • Presentation: Novel easy to understand visualization and interpretation tools that can be widely accessed on different platforms.

CLOUD CENTRIC INTERNET OF THINGS:

The vision of IOT can be seen from two perspectives- ‘internet ‘centric and ‘thing’ centric. The internet-centric architecture will involve internet services being the main focus while data is contributed by the objects. In object-centric architecture, the smart object takes the center stage.

The new IOT applications specific framework should be able to provide support for:

1) Reading data streams either from sensors directly or fetching the data from the database.

2) Easy expression of data analytics logic as functions/operations that person data streams in a transparent and scalable manner and cloud infrastructures.

3) If any events of interest are detected, outcomes should be passed to output streams.

SERVICES/ BENEFITS OF IOT:

  • Improved citizen’s quality of life
  • Healthcare from anywhere
  • Better safety, security, and productivity
  • new business opportunities
  • IOT can be used in every vertical for improving the efficiency
  • creates new business and new and better jobs
  • economic growth
  • Better environment
  • saves natural resources and trees
  • helps in creating a smart, greener, and sustainable planet
  • Improved competitiveness
  • competitive in providing cutting edge products/services
